The DGGG experts warn that pregnant women should not only pay particular attention to hygiene, but should temporarily do without fresh fruit and uncooked vegetables.

As a hygiene measure, the DGGG recommends thorough "cleaning of the hands, all surfaces and kitchen tools after the preparation of raw meat". In addition, "Fabrics (towels) that have come into contact with raw meat" should be washed as a wash at at least 60 degrees, the DGGG advises. Furthermore, according to the experts, the pregnant women should take into account when cooking that the EHEC bacteria die safely if they are “heated to over 70 degrees for more than 10 minutes”. The food should therefore be "cooked, fried, grilled or baked" long enough.
